Home Port: Learning more about Liberty Landing Marina in Jersey City

Updated: Oct 13, 2023

Liberty Landing Marina (LLM) is a very special place for the Liberty Yacht Club. Most boat owner-members store and maintain their boats there. Our non-boat owner members have come to enjoy the marina; be it launching for a Wednesday Night Race or meeting at one of the docks, or the historic Light Ship, for educational or social gatherings. In short, LLM is a place where we have a lot of fun.

To learn a little more about the marina, we caught up with General Manager, Daniel Cordano, who oversees the marina’s operations and financials. A New Jersey native, Daniel grew up in Bayonne, and at a young age, developed a love for fishing and boating. “It’s an amazing area to be on the water, and one with a long maritime history,” shares Daniel. “I’ve seen a lot of activity on the water, but one of the most unforgettable days I can remember on the Harbor was on 9/11, assisting ferries and boats as they evacuated people out of Manhattan. It was a great example of regular people pulling together.”

Liberty Landing Marina opened its doors in 1996, and was officially completed in 2021, but in no way does that mean the GM’s work is done. “It’s an ongoing process. We are always looking for ways to improve the marina and our services.”

When asked about what makes LLM so special, Daniel smiles, “It is a combination of things. Our unrivaled location, our panoramic views of Manhattan, our staff, which includes some of the best in the business, and our amenities.” Those amenities are substantial: a comfortable club room for the owner’s and their guests, multiple bathroom and shower stations, a full-service marine store, a fuel dock, and a few exquisite restaurants and bars right at the marina. “When you couple those amenities with ample parking and direct ferry service, you get an amazing experience,” adds Daniel.

As a result, each year several fantastic events are hosted here, including an annual vendor event and product showcase, the Manhattan Cup Tournament, the Around Long Island Regatta, and, of course, Liberty Yacht Club’s very own Liberty Cup Regatta™.

Daniel explains that the marina is constantly looking for ways to improve.

“We realize there are areas that need attention. For example, we’ve engaged a third-party company to replace old wiring with fiber to make way for a new Wi-Fi and a security camera service. It goes without saying that we are constantly evaluating the docks and maintaining them as needed. Our goal is to make the boating experience at this marina the best it can be.”

As our club settles in for a long winter, we take comfort knowing spring is right around the corner, as is our return to the water and Liberty Landing Marina.
