SailGP Seeking Volunteers to Help with STEM Programs

SailGP is currently looking for STEM Ambassadors to help us deliver our workshops and discover SailGP's backstage, where the magic happens! 


STEM Ambassadors will play a crucial role in inspiring future generations through SailGP's educational initiatives. 


Below you will find more details on the program, timings and a small list of competencies to apply for this role:

1. SailGP Inspire Learning Program

We are looking for 4 or more individuals to deliver an interactive school program showcasing the science behind sailing and sustainability. Volunteers will have the opportunity to conduct workshops where students can engage in hands-on activities and explore the technical site of a mega sporting event.

   Working Days:

  • Sunday, June 16th: Setup of Learning Zone (working hours to be arranged)

  • Monday, June 17th - Friday, June 21st: Learning workshops (8:00 AM to 2:00 PM)

  • Friday, June 21st: Pack up in the afternoon and moving equipment (working hours to be arranged)

2. SailGP Race Village - INSPIRE Program Activations

We require 3 volunteers to deliver a family program during the SailGP event on Governors Island. Volunteers will be responsible for instructing guests in various activities related to SailGP and sailing. All activities will be beginner-friendly, and there will be an introduction before the event to ensure everyone feels comfortable and included.

   Working Days:

  • Saturday, June 22nd: 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM

  • Sunday, June 23rd: 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM (followed by packing up, working hours to be arranged)


Competencies for Volunteers

  • Sailing Expertise: Experience with sailing and maritime terminology is advantageous.

  • Teaching Skills: Ability to effectively communicate and impart knowledge to students or guests.

  • Safety Awareness: Understanding and implementing safety protocols during activities.

  • Youth/Community Engagement: Ability to engage and inspire young learners or guests.

  • Communication Skills: Clear and effective communication with participants and team members.

  • Teamwork: Positive attitude and proactive thinking to support the team.
