About the Event

Welcome to the Liberty Yacht Club’s trip to the Western Long Island Sound!

Cruise Captain: Gary Sedoruk

Tentative agenda:

On Friday August 9th we plan to head up the East River, sail beyond Execution Rock and moor at the Sea Cliff Yacht Club for the evening. Sea Cliff always goes out of their way to extend their hospitality to our members and its simply a nice place to spend some time. Once we have a sense of how many of the members plan to stay at Sea Cliff, we can plan a group dinner is their restaurant. Charlie Walsh, their General Manager, always lends a helping hand in making our stay a success.

Day two we will sail on to the Huntington Yacht Club to take in more sights of the glorious north shore and Huntington Harbor. The Huntington Yacht Club is a full-service club also with very nice dining facilities should you wish to dine at the club. Huntington also has a wide array of local restaurants for those who wish to dine ashore.

Some basics for the weekend sail:

  • The mighty East River is going to be nice to us for this trip.  On Friday, 8/10 the Slack before the flood at Hell Gate occurs at 9:05 AM, so leaving Liberty Landing around 8:00 AM will give you a comfortable voyage up the East River and plenty of time for sailing the Western Long Island Sound before settling in at Sea Cliff.
  • The sail Saturday east to Huntington should is estimated at 3 hours 30 minutes so their should be plenty of time to plan some time ashore or sail in the Sound based on your preference prior to mooring at the Huntington Yacht Club.
  • One Sunday, 8/11 the East River once again cooperates with the Slack before Ebb occurring at 3:33 PM, so an arrival at the Throgs Neck Bridge by 2:33 PM should also have a comfortable journey back down the East River enroute to our home port.
  • Both the SCYC and HYC have full websites that describe their amenities and points of interest. I encourage you to visit their website to learn more about these wonderful ports of call.
  • Each Skipper is responsible to make their own reservations through the APP Dockwa. It’s easy to use and you can cancel typically 48 hours in advance of the reservation if you need to change your plans.

Let’s this make this a great time amongst friends, new and old. We look forward to seeing many members on this trip to the Long Island Sound, please confirm your attendance as soon as your schedule allows.
